The Avengers Essay

The Avengers Essay

Marvel was the company that produced The Avengers which released on 2012. Marvel is actually owned by The Walt Disney Company, or at least, The Walt Disney Company own their film rights, who are, in a nut shell, loaded. So they had a massive budget to throw at this film in order for it to make lots of profit from it. Eventually, the Avengers turned out to be the new king of the box office, bringing in 1.58 BILLION. Yes, billion!

The Avengers is the final product of all the other films that Marvel has produced, Thor and Captain America, were only made to take part in the Avengers, and we often see each one of them in their different films, for example, in Thor Dark World, we have a 3 second shot of Captain America when Loki uses his disguise spells. They often do this in their films in order to promote their upcoming films. And to possibly grab the attention of that films fan base, to make them go "Who was that guy in the spangly outfit?" and then go onto watching the Captain America films.

The influence of technology, things such as phones, streaming services, DVD and Blu Ray, all have a small influence on the films that are made. For example, if we all used phones, the films would be made so that it's most suitable for our phones. What some of the films are doing is releasing a mobile cut that's most suitable for phones. Other things such as Amazon Video, Netflix, Sky, and others, actually help the film make money.

Film company's have only recently started to work along side new devices such as consoles, phones, and computers. Before we could only go to the cinema to watch them, or download them from the internet (after paying of course) now they work with allot of the new devices, the consoles for example, they have things like Netflix installed on them, and from there we can stream the film through the console. Essentially, the film company's are working with other company's in order to show their film, and the company's such as Amazon and Netflix, and these types of services are slowly becoming more and more popular.

Technologies coming together in order to help the film industry. Well, VFX wise, allot of new tech was used, of course they used stuff like Motion Capture CGI for the alien characters, but they also used allot more 3D CGI than you'd think, most of the fight scene in New York was entirely CGI (Yes... the whole thing.) They sent a large team of photographers out in New York to take photos of the sky, buildings, cities, and more, in order to make one MASSIVE, accurate reflection maps, bump maps, sky maps, and more. They'd use this for such shots that'd otherwise be impossible to achieve with real cameras, such as the one where Iron Man is flying through the city, followed by a massive 40ft long monster, and the beauty of it all being in 3D, it allows them to achieve such shots, and to be super creative and allows them to make a complete mess of New York city, without having to do it in real life.

My opinion on the above, technology wise, it is helping the film industry greatly, they can achieve super realistic renders to the point where you cannot tell if it is actually real life or not, take a look at the clip below.

Looks fairly realistic doesn't it? Yet if we stare at it long enough, we can instinctively tell that he is fake. Advancing technology is trying to overcome this natural instinct that we have, to try make stuff look more realistic to the highest standard.

However I think that the migration to mobile devices is a terrible idea, who wants to watch a film on a small screen with terrible quality on both video and sound? And more importantly, why would you spend the effort of holding your phone up for 2 solid hours watching a film at lower quality than that of a potato? It's a terrible idea!

Though streaming wise, I think it's a pretty good idea, paying for a service to catch up on films we've not seen, and the newest latest's films available.
